Dreamweaver – Project #1 Creating a Web Page and Local site

The Dreamweaver Workspace Title bar, Document Window, Panels Groups, status bar, menu bar and toolbars.

Panels and Panel Group Panels provide control over a wide range of Dreamweaver commands and functions. Property Inspector displays settings for specific element’s properties or attributes. Use F4 as a toggle to open or close all panels and inspectors at one time.

Defining a local site Web Site – a set of linked documents with shared attributes, similar design or shared purpose. Creating a local site: Use manage sites to identify the local root folder, default images folder and define the URL of a web site.

The Index Page- The home page is the starting point for the rest of your web site. The home page is most often named index. The index page is located in the root folder.

Properties Inspector Features: Add background image – Page properties, background image, browse. Format box – allows you to apply a paragraph, heading or preformatted style to text. Quick access buttons – bold, italics, bulleted lists and numbered lists

Page Properties Features: Select - Page font, size and color Text Color – use the color picker to select the colors for page elements or text. Color cubes & Continuous tone – display web-safe colors. Approximately (212 – 216) web safe colors exist Select - Background color & image

Types of Links External Link – enter complete URL of the document Internal Link – link documents(pages) within the same folder E-Mail Link – creates a blank e-mail message containing the receipt’s address

HTML Special Characters Registered Trademark & Copyright symbols: Insert, HTML, Special Characters Horizontal Rules: Insert, HTML, Horizontal Rule Line Break: Shift + Enter

Print a Web Page Preview the Web Page using a browser to test the display of the page. Select File, preview in browser or (F12) Print Web pages: Select, file, print (background will not print)
