Stories passed down by word of mouth from generation to generation are a part of The Oral Tradition . This genre can also be called Traditional Literature.

Universal Theme is a message about life that can be understood by people from many different cultures; this message is also called a moral.

Heroes and Heroines: larger than life figures whose virtues and deeds are often shared and celebrated in the oral tradition

Storytelling: an art in which the talents and personality of a speaker are used to bring a story to life

Figurative Language: hyperbole is exaggeration used to create humor and personification is giving human characteristics to non-humans
