Space flight timeline

Space missions Since 1957, many different nations have sent missions up into space, intending to discover more information about our solar system. Some of these missions were manned, but most of them were unmanned robots.

Your task 1969 Venera 5 – Venus atmospheric probe unmanned Venera 6 – Venus atmospheric probe unmanned Mariner 6 – Mars flyby – unmanned Mariner 7 – Mars flyby – unmanned Apollo 10 – Lunar orbiter – manned Apollo 11 – Lunar lander – manned – First manned lunar landing and first successful sample return Zond 7 – Lunar flyby – unmanned Apollo 12 – Lunar landing - manned The next few pages contain boxes like the one on the right Go to http://goo.gl/zBI6LF and fill in the timeline of the successful missions that explore our solar system (ignore test flights) For each, give the mission name, objective, and if it was manned/unmanned, and if the mission was a significant first

Gallery pages For each half decade I have also included a gallery page On these pages, put labelled pictures of some of the significant space missions

The 1950s 1957 Sputnik 1 – first Earth orbiter – unmanned Sputnik 2 – first animal in orbit – unmanned (canined) 1958 Explorer 1 – earth orbiter – unamnned – discovered Van Allen radiation belts Vanguard 1 – Earth orbiter - unmanned 1959 Luna 1 – First lunar flyby – unmanned Pioneer 4 – Lunar flyby – unmanned Luna 2 – first lunar impact – unmanned Luna 3 – lunar flyby – first images of dark side of the moon - unmanned
