Reporting: Just the Facts, Ma’am!

What do we need to know? Who? Who else? What happened? What did you do? Where? When? How many times? Did it stop?

WHY? Why would we need to answer all of these questions? Here’s another question word: WHY? Why would we need to answer all of these questions?

“Mike hit George!” Let’s find out why… What do we know? What do we need to know? What do you think happened?

Mike George If you don’t know where, when, how often and who else, you would think something very different happened …

“Ava fell down and hurt her arm!” Let’s try another… “Ava fell down and hurt her arm!” What do we know? What do we need to know? What do you think happened?

Ava

“Rose kept kicking Olivia in school!” What do we know? What do we need to know? What do you think happened?

Olivia Rose

“Kaitlyn got cut!” What do we know? What do we need to know? What do you think happened?

Kaitlyn

“He pushed me!” Let’s try another… What do we know? What do we need to know? What do you think happened?

Me Him

Why would we need to answer all of these questions? So let’s ask again: WHY? Why would we need to answer all of these questions?

Without this information … Who? Who else? What happened? What did you do? Where? When? How many times? Did it stop? We are missing important parts of the story!
