How to Write A Review (Movie)

Paragraph 1 (Introduction) Give the name of the film Prominent stars and their roles Basic setting Type of film If it is based on a book

Paragraph 2—Plot Summary Cover the entire scope of the movie (except the end) Write about 5 events Do NOT give away the ending

Paragraph 3—one aspect of movie making Acting Directing Costumes Set design photography Music Choose one of these topics to analyze. Be specific and give examples from the film.

Paragraph 4—another aspect of film making You may talk about another aspect of film making and how it applies to the overall message of the film. Look for metaphors contained in the filmand write about them.

Paragraph 5—compare to 1984 You can compare your movie to 1984 in a separate paragraph or do it throughout the paper. See my power point on different ways to compare the film to the book

Last paragraph—Evaluate the film Give the overall reaction to the film as well as your opinion on the quality of the film. Evaluate the value of this film—convey your judgment by giving strong evidence

Tips Analyze effectiveness of the plot, theme, acting, special effects, and any other elements that are used to create the film. Avoid generalized opinions such as “This is a great movie,” or “The acting was terrible.”
