Statistics US began developing Atomic weapons in June 1942- known as the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos, New Mexico August 6, 1945- Hiroshima August 9, 1945- Nagasaki August 14, 1945- Japan surrenders

US decision President Truman (took over when Roosevelt died in office)- 1945 3 Options Negotiate a peace with Japan- Japanese leaders were not willing to negotiate Invade Japan- Soviet Union had agreed to help but this would lead to more deaths of Allied soldiers Use atomic bomb- new technology, result in many deaths in Japan Truman decides to use the bomb
