2 Nov. 3, 1941: Japanese plan to attack Pearl Harbor to try and destroy the US Dec. 7, 1941: Japan bombs Pearl Harbor killing 2,355 servicemen Dec. 8-11, 1941: US declares war on Japan & Axis Powers declare war on the US, bringing the US into war June 6, 1944: D-Day, when Allied soldiers invaded German strongholds in France, initiating German retreat April 12, 1945: FDR dies, Truman becomes president May 2, 1945: Germany surrendered August 6, 1945: US drops atomic bomb on Hiroshima in attempts to get Japan to surrender Aug. 9, 1945: second atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki Sep. 2, 1945: Japan surrenders- WWII ended
