Global competencies and intercultural learning..... no longer optional in today's world Sherifa Fayez

Intercultural growth occurs when educators intentionally intervene Importance of effective cultural mentoring by skilled facilitators Need to share culture-general frameworks and culture-specific content up-front Including time for regular reflection in program design Necessity of a developmental approach Demonstrated that students do not automatically acquire intercultural skills from being exposed to or immersed in another culture. Intercultural growth occurs when we as educators intentionally intervene in their learning via experiential and developmental pedagogy. Now go back to your list of program elements. Are any of these 4 elements part of your study abroad program that you reviewed earlier? The Georgetown Consortium Project: Interventions for Student Learning Abroad Michael Vande Berg , Council on International Educational Exchange Jeffrey Connor-Linton, Georgetown University R.
