WHAT IS THE REAL NORMAL RANGE? DIABETES NUMBERS WHAT IS THE REAL NORMAL RANGE?

HbA1C (or commonly know for A1C) This refers to Glycated Hemoglobin. It develops when haemoglobin, a protein within red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout your body, joins with glucose in the blood, becoming 'glycated’. Average A1C is measured over a period of 3 months. NORMAL PRE-DIABETES DIABETES ADA < 5.7% 5.7% - 6.4% > 6.5% AACE <5.5% 5.5% - 6.4%

Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) A test to determine how much glucose (sugar) is in a blood sample after an overnight fast. Also known as Fasting Blood Sugar NORMAL PRE-DIABETES DIABETES ADA < 100 mg/dl 100 mg/dl – 125 mg/dl > 126 mg/dl AACE

Random Plasma Glucose A test to determine how much glucose (sugar) is in a blood sample at any given time. Usually 2 hours after first bite of the meal. Also known as Random Blood Sugar NORMAL PRE-DIABETES DIABETES ADA < 140 mg/dl 140 mg/dl – 199 mg/dl > 200 mg/dl AACE
