The Hemoglobin protein in blood is effected This protein, which is different because of the iron found in it, is responsible for carrying oxygen within blood This causes red blood cells to instead of being flexible and disc-shaped, these cells are more stiff and curved in the shape of the old farm tool known as a sickle

3. What does this do Instead of the blood cells lasting 120 days or around 3 months their life span is much shorter 10-20 days This is where the Anemia comes in. Anemia is when the bodies blood cell count, or Hemoglobin count is below normal

4. It is a genetic disorder It is passed down through gene’s much like blood typing. This means the only way one can get the disease is if their mother and father are carriers.

6. It does have some pro’s Sickle cell trait but not the disease has been found to help people resist malaria This means in places with high chances of Malaria Sickle is more common. Historic Sickle cell Historic Malaria
