Laws of reflection

Learning goals We are learning to draw images in plane mirrors. We are learning to describe images in plane mirrors.

From our lab, we learned… angle of incidence = angle of reflection

Specular reflection Reflection of light off a smooth surface (ex. mirror)

Diffuse reflection Reflection of light off a rough surface (ex. moving water)

Virtual Images An image formed by light coming from an apparent light source Light is not arriving at or coming from the actual image location

Lateral inversion orientation of an image in a plane mirror that is backwards and in reverse order

How do we see the image?

Virtual Image Your brain believes rays are emanating from a position behind the mirror (virtual!)

Properties of an Image Use the acronym SALT

Reflection Worksheet Complete the worksheet Remember that the virtual image must be the same distance from the mirror as the real object

Sample Question S- same size A- upright L- behind mirror T- virtual

Learning goals We are learning to draw images in plane mirrors. We are learning to describe images in plane mirrors.
