How does Read Write Inc. teach spelling? Fred Fingers

Behaviours and Praises RWI recommends teaching the children particular behaviours to reduce interruptions and maximise learning time in the session. Some may sound simple or a bit daft, but with a bit of training they really do help keep the children focussed and quicken the pace of the lesson. Hand Signals Quiet hand 1, 2, 3 Me/you Partner talk Feedback Games Popcorn Mexican wave Partner talk and choral Praises Whoosh Snap, crackle, pop Marshmallow clap Go guys -- Go wild!

Talking! ‘Feed’ the children new and ambitious vocabulary all the time! “Let’s eat our lunch now.” “Let’s munch our lunch now.” “Let’s scoff our lunch now.” “Let’s devour our lunch now!” You’re looking ... not just... but...

Choose your words carefully! Enrich conversations through description: “Look at that rain. It looks like little diamonds sparkling on the window pane!” Have fun with words and language. “I’m as hot as a spud in a cooking pot!” Praise the children for using new words or interesting phrases

Life is a journey and reading is our ticket! We believe that life is an amazing journey, and reading is the ticket to our dream destination. Lets make sure that our amazing children reach their potential! As a Woodlander, this is their time, their time to shine!
