Red Cross Society

Introduction Red Cross is an international organization concerned with the alleviation of human suffering and the promotion of public health. The world recognized symbols of mercy and absolute neutrality are the Red Cross, the Red Crescent, and the Red Crystal flags and emblems. It was established on 26th October 1863 A.D in Geneva, Switzerland which was found by a Swiss businessman Doctor and Philanthropist, Jean Henry Dunant. It is one of the Oldest ,most recognized organization in the world. The history of International Red cross is started when  Jean Henry Dunant  traveled to Italy to meet French emperor Napoleon  with the intention of discussing difficulties in conducting business in Algeria, at that time occupied by France. When he arrived in the small town of Solferino ,he toured the field of the Battle of Solferino, and He had seen lots of soldiers death due to lack of treatment in the war. After this he wrote a book entitled “A Memory Of Solferino” and he  sent copies of the book to leading political and military figures throughout Europe. He

explicitly advocated the formation of national voluntary relief organizations to help nurse wounded soldiers in the case of war. In addition, he called for the development of international treaties to guarantee the protection of neutral medics and field hospitals for soldiers wounded on the battlefield. In this way International Committee of Red cross was formed. In present 190 Countries are the members of International Committee of Red cross. Red Cross Society is different than in other countries. It was established in 1963(2020 Bhadra 19th). It provide food, clothes and other necessary things for the victim of Natural Calamites. It helps rehabilitating refuges in Nepal. But, mainly it helps or supports victims in other Countries. It also provide awareness program in different topic .Nepal has 75 Branch of Nepal Red Cross Society. Nepal Red Cross Society , Palpa Branch was established on 7th mangsir 2027. Baburam Karki is the chief Executive officer of Palpa Red Cross Society. There are 14 Sub-Branch of Palpa Red Cross Society, 91 junior Red Cross Circle and 14 youth Red cross circle in Palpa district . There had done many work such as making aware to the people about diseases and so on.

Objectives of Visit While, We were on the way , we had set different objectives and they are as follows-: To find out the area working by Red Cross. To know the historical background of Red Cross Society. To know the importance of the Red Cross Society. To know aims and goals of Red Cross Society. To compare the activities of Red Cross with different countries through communication and collaboration.

To know about the facilities provided by Nepal Red Cross Society, Palpa Branch.

Objectives of ICRC The objectives of World Red Cross Society are as Follows -: To suggest the concerned authority to work in this field and help all the victims suffered from different problems. To Reduce the number of deaths, injuries and impact from disasters. To Reduce the number of deaths, illnesses and impact from diseases and public health emergencies. To Increase local community, civil society and Red Cross Red Crescent capacity to address the most urgent situations of vulnerability.

To relieve human suffering in disasters and emergencies.  To preserve life and establish respect for all across the globe To prevent and alleviate human suffering.

Mission OF ICRC Vision OF ICRC The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. Vision OF ICRC To inspire, encourage, facilitate and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies, with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering, and there by contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.

Method of Study 1) Primary Sources Our study was based on following sources 1) Primary Sources In primary Sources, We had an interview with chief execucative officer Baburam Karki of Nepal Red Cross Society , Palpa Branch. We visited there and he had told lots of thing about Red Cross Society.

2) Secondary Sources In Secondary Sources , We had already collected a lot of information about Red Cross through different means such as books, gadgets , internet, magazines and so on.

Key Finding They arrange for emergency relief services for disaster victims. They  serve war-victims, both civilians and army personnel, in times of armed conflict, and to work in the fields identified by the Geneva Conventions, including Tracing, in times of peace. They  contribute to promoting and improving health condition, preventing of diseases and reducing suffering. They  organize Junior and Youth Red Cross as an integral part of Nepal Red Cross Society and to conduct activities promoting their participation.

They ensure respect for the International Humanitarian Law and protection of the Red Cross Emblem. Red Cross promote the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement and International Humanitarian Law with the objective of developing humanitarian ideals. Red Cross is Humanitarian volunteer based international organization. Red Cross also works on School Based Disaster Reduction Programs. There are more than 97 millions Red Cross volunteers all over the world.

Red Cross provide higher quality relief items through the use of qualified suppliers to the needy people They distribute relief items that are better matched to their needs as a result of our expertise. Red Cross is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain. Red Cross is a worldwide institution in which all societies have equal status and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other. Red Cross carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory.

Nepal has more than 100 thousand Red Cross Volunteer. They also Supplies drinking water, food and runs child health care program me. Red Cross Increase local community, civil society and Red Cross Red Crescent capacity to address the most urgent situations of vulnerability. There are 91 youths working in Nepal Red Cross society , Palpa Branch. They Reduce the number of deaths, injuries and impact from disasters and also help for those people who are suffered from this.

 Red Cross is an impartial, neutral and independent entity that does not discriminate on the basis of race, politics, or religion, and is barred from engaging in controversy. They works in conjunction with other humanitarian organizations to provide swift help in sudden times of need.

Conclusion Red Cross was established to supports war victims , provides food clothes and other necessary things to the victim of natural calamites . So, red cross is helping different earthquake victims. It helps to develop our district and a whole nation.
