Setting Your Goals High: TEDTALK Quotes from Clip: You know exactly what you want and the only thing that you need to do it admit it. I want to not only reach him but I want to surpass his. When you admit the big thing you are up to, it’s embarrassing. But you’ve gotta do it.

S.M.A.R.T. Goals: Discussion Have you ever created a S.M.A.R.T. Goal? If so, when and why? Does anyone know what the acronym represents in S.M.A.R.T Goals?

Guided Notes: Creating SMART Goals Specific: Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely

Guided Notes: Specific Goals SPECIFIC: You know exactly what you are wanting to accomplish. EX: “Get in shape.” VS “Join a gym and work out 3 days a week To set a specific goal you must answer the six "W" questions: Who: Who is involved? What: What do I want to accomplish? Where: Identify a location. When: Establish a time frame. Which: Identify requirements and constraints. Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.

Guided Notes: S.M.A.R.T. Goals MEASURABLE: How will you know that they are measurable? EX: Goal Weight- 140LBS I will have weekly weigh-ins every Monday.

Guided Notes: S.M.A.R.T. Goals Attainable: You can attain most any goals when you plan your steps wisely and establish a time frame that allows you to carry out those steps. Goals that may have seemed far away and out fo reach eventually move closer and become attainable, not because your goals shrink, but because you grow and expand to match them. When you list your goals you build your self-image. You see yourself as worthy of those goals , and develop the traits and personality that allow you to possess them.

Guided Notes: S.M.A.R.T. Goals RELEVENT/REALISTIC Link the goal to something that important to you, something that inspire you. (RELEVANT) To be realistic, a goal must represent an ojective toward which you are both willing and able to work. A high goal is frequently more easier to reach than a low one because a low goal exerts low motivational force. Some of the hardest jobs you ever accomplished actually seem easy simply because they were a labor of love.

Guided Notes: S.M.A.R.T. Goals TIMELY When do you want your goal to be met? “Someday” won’t work. But if you anchor it with a timeframe (“my May 1st), then you have already set your mind into motion to begin working on the goal. A goal should be grounded with a time frame. With no time frame to it, there is no sense of urgency.
