The Ukrainian national dish (borsch)

Borsch has had a special and important place on the daily menu of the Ukrainian people for many years. It is usually served as a course for dinner. It tastes best when served with pampushkas (small round buns) and garlic.

Ingredients 2 litres water 300 g beef 300 g shredded cabbage 2 shredded carrots 1 beetroot cut into thin strips 3-4 potatoes cut into thin strips 1 chopped onion ½ cut beans 1 stick of celery (sliced) sunflower oil 1 tablespoon tomato sauce Dill, parsley, salt, sugar, pepper (to taste)

The steps to prepare it.

1. Put meat into a large saucepan 1. Put meat into a large saucepan. Add water and bring to boil a medium-high heat. Turn heat to low . Simmer for about 40 minutes.

Add potato, cabbage and simmer for 10 more minutes.

Add pre-cooked beans.

Put onions, carrots, celery and beetroots into a frying pan Put onions, carrots, celery and beetroots into a frying pan. Add sunflower oil and brown for 5 minutes. Add tomato sauce. Stir the mix in the saucepan.

Add salt, sugar and pepper to taste.

Serve borsch hot and with sour cream Serve borsch hot and with sour cream. Sprinkle it with dill or parsley, and don’t forget the pampushkas and garlic.
