Presentation transcript:

1 Peter 1:3-10 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials…”

1 Peter 1:3-10 “…that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls. Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you” (NKJV).

What Does Salvation Mean? I. Salvation from Past Sins. The Christian has been cleansed from His “old sins” (2 Pet. 1:9). In baptism our “old man” was “crucified with Him” (Rom. 6:5-6). Salvation from Sins Committed after Becoming a Christian. The Christian confesses to Christ when they have sinned (1 John 1:9).

What Does Salvation Mean? Salvation from what We Might Have Become without Christ. Paul would have remained a “blasphemer” (1 Tim. 1:12-15). We were once “darkness” (Eph. 5:7-8). Salvation from Anxiety and Care. We cast our cares on Christ (1 Pet. 5:6-7). He will never leave us (Heb. 13:5). We don’t have to worry (Matt. 6:31-34).

What Does Salvation Mean? Eternal Life with God. It will bring “eternal glory” (2 Tim. 2:10-12). He is the author of “eternal salvation” (Heb. 5:9). As the Christian lives in faithfulness our salvation grows “nearer” (Rom. 13:11).
