Combustion BY AREEB

WHAT IS COMBUSTION ? Combustion is a chemical process in which a substance reacts rapidly with oxygen and gives off heat. The original substance is called the fuel, and the source of oxygen is called the oxidizer.

WHEN DOES COMBUSTION HAPPEN ? Combustion takes place when fuel, most commonly a fossil fuel, reacts with the oxygen in air to produce heat. The heat created by the burning of a fossil fuel is used in the operation of equipment such as boilers, furnaces, kilns, and engines.

WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS THAT PRODUCE COMBUSTION ? During complete combustion carbon and hydrogen combine with oxygen (O2) to produce carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). During incomplete combustion part of the carbon is not completely oxidized producing soot or carbon monoxide (CO).

WHAT ARE THE PRODUCTS OF COMBUSTION Carbon Dioxide. Carbon Monoxide. Sulfur Dioxide. Nitrogen Oxides. Lead. Particulate Matter.
