CONTENTS: Introduction Study of past researchers Verification of experiment of the existing model Conclusion Proposed changing in the model Designed model of turbine blades

Introduction Gravitational water vortex turbine: The gravitation water vortex power plant is a type of micro hydro power plant which is capable of producing energy using a low hydraulic head of 0.7–3 meters. The technology is based on a round basin with a central drain. Above the drain the water forms a stable line vortex which drives a water turbine.

Continue.. A free vortex stream always occurs at low head of water . It accelerates a stream from slow to high velocity and gives it high enough kinetic energy to generate electric power. The efficiency of a gravitational vortex power plant depends on factors such as parameter. Turbine.(blade profile & positioning) vortex pool.(area ) vortex pool design.(conical or cylindrical)

Study of past researchers : Mulligan & casserely (2010) did their research projects on “design & optimization of a water vortex hydro micro power plant” These researchers design optimum design the basin and then they did CFD fluent analysis. then the researcher conclude that strength of the vortex is depend on the range of orifice diameter to the tank diameter ratio. 14% for low head. 18% high head.

Continue.. Another researchers (Wanchat S. , Suntivarakorn, Wachat, Tonmit, & Kayanyiem, 2013) studied the analysis and design of basin structure. Which structure the ability has to produce a power full vortex stream? Two basin structure analyze through CFD fluent. Conical basin. Cylindrical basin. As shown in the figure.

Cylindrical basin Conical basin

Continue… After CFD fluent analysis they conclude that the conical basin is more better than the cylindrical basin. The efficiency of the cylindrical basin is 36%. And the efficiency of the conical basin is 74.35%.

Continue… Dependent parameter on conical basin for gravitational water vortex turbine . Basin opening Basin diameter Notch length Canal height Cone angle After the analysis the orifice for the conical basin is from 14%to 18% Ratio to [d/D] is Perfect.

Experimental verification of the existing model: Fully observe the model and verify that the model is approximately according to the standard which is mention above. We studied the following parameter. cone angle. notch angle. flow rate. calculate existing energy in the channel. calculate the mechanical power.

Continue ... H Pin pout Serial NO FLOW RATE Q HEAD POWER INPUT Power output pout Efficiency In %age 1 2.3m3/sec 0.7m 15.77watt 0.230watt 1.46%

Conclusion: After the keen observation we saw that the main problem is . Improper blade design improper blade position Most of the area of the blade is not in contact with the vortex Heavy blade are designed that the vortex has unable to rotate.

Proposed changing in the model: To change the turbine blades. To change the position of the blade in the vortex . To eliminate the friction between the shaft of the turbine and the generator. Increase in the flow rate .

Designed model of turbine blades:
