Welcome to Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006 CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006

CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006 The Vision All learners will have equitable access to educational opportunities in a manner that renders distance transparent. CDLI is a division of the Department of Education that supports the learning of all students and teachers. CDLI is a collaborative organization that works as a partner with school districts to extend and expand learning opportunities for students. Site-based and distance learning will be integrated, interchangeable, and transparent Bringing learners to learning CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006

CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006 Why E-Learning ? NL CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006

CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006 What is e-Learning? E-learning is the completion of course work using a computer and the Internet. The computer is used to: view and interact with the course content communicate with your teacher and on-line classmates complete assignment and/or write tests construct projects The Internet brings the students and the teacher together. CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006

When is course work completed? During the periods designated in the timetable Synchronous periods are times when the student meets with the teacher in a virtual classroom on-line. Asynchronous classes are times when the student completes activities independently on-line or off-line. Whenever students have homework. Completion is Essential – Formative/Self-Diagnostic CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006

CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006 What do students need? An open mind and a desire to learn. Basic time management skills. Standard computer skills. The greatest asset is a positive attitude. CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006

CDLI Parent-Teacher Night 2005-2006 Keys to Success Successful students are those who: Use asynchronous time effectively. Use the course tools like the homepage or the calendar to monitor due dates and manage their time. Do assigned work as soon as it is assigned and in small “chunks” . Use tools like e-mail to write clear and specific requests for assistance, clarification, or explanation from the e-teacher. Participate in vClass by asking questions about what’s been encountered in the web-based content. Strive for understanding instead of scrambling to “jump through the hoops”.
