Outline IPS observing technique IPS telescopes After a brief introduction of some background knowledge and the observing technique of IPS, we will go to the main part of this talk, the progress of IPS study in China

IPS observing technique SSSF: Single Station Single Frequency SSDF: Single Station Dual Frequency

IPS observing technique SSSF mode can measure the speed by calculating two characteristic frequencies of the spectra: the Fresnel knee frequency fF corresponding to Fresnel diffraction theory, and fmin the first minimum of the spectra. Being different from the SSSF mode, the SSDF mode adopts simultaneous Single Station Dual-Frequency method to measure the solar wind speed, by deriving the first zero point of the normalized cross-spectrum (NCS) at two different frequencies, which wavelengths areλ1 andλ2, andλ1>λ2. The expression for solar wind speed using the SSDF mode. where K is a correction factor which varies slightly with the solar wind parameters and is usually set to be 1.1. In most cases, taking K=1 will cause no more than a 10 % error in the measured solar wind speed.SSDF mode can measure the solar wind speed more precisely, for fzero is only sensitive to the solar wind speed V.

Telescopes in use 25m radio telescope in Urumqi The antenna has a primary mirror with 25 m in diameter and a 3 m secondary mirror. It operates at waves of 92 cm, 49 cm, 1.3 cm, 2.8 cm, 3.6/13 cm, 6 cm and 18/21 cm. Receivers are respectively mounted at the primary focus and the secondary focus. The antenna is located at 87°10.67' E and 43°28.27' N,with an elevation of 2080.5m.

Potential telescopes 65 m Tianma Telescope in Shanghai The Shanghai 65m Radio Telescope was approved at the end of October 2008. Its foundation was laid on December 29, 2009, its construction started on March 19, 2010, and took a total of four years to complete on October 28, 2012. The mission was accomplished very well in all the stages involving the antenna system, receiving system, active moving system, terminal system, station control and time/frequency system. Furthermore, construction of the test station and experimental astronomy observation were completed according to the project plan. Test results based on the “Shanghai 65m Radio Telescope System: Stage-One Acceptance Test Guidelines” indicated that all the technical performance indices specified by the project plan have been met or surpassed. Thus we have achieved our objective of building a large world-class radio telescope.  Its operating wavelengths from 7 mm to 21 cm in eight sections cover the entire centimeter and long millimeter range for radio astronomical observation http://english.shao.cas.cn/fs/201410/t20141008_128903.html

Potential telescopes 15 m DVA-C The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will be the world’s largest radio telescope, providing unparalleled sensitivity and great opportunities for important discoveries and scientific breakthroughs. As a co-founder and one of the 10 member countries of the SKA organization, China involves in several work packages in the SKA pre-construction phase. An important contribution to the SKA project is the proposal to realize the Dish Verification Antenna China (DVA-C) and to build the DVA-C.

Thank you!
