What’s Happening New Employee Education- Manual New employees are given employee manual Most employees have read manual Most employees own or have access to manual Employee manual is missing some components

What’s Happening New Employee Education- Orientation Consists of reading manual, receiving tour and observing current teachers Many employees have reported that they have not received any orientation training Substitute teachers do not receive orientation training at all

What’s Happening Current Employee Education- Continued Learning Rare and irregular training programs (generally when there is an issue to be addressed) Staff meetings held on as-needed basis Some meetings specific to class age Will begin having monthly meetings in Sept. Staff wants to be trained on various topics

What should be happening New Employee Education- Manual All employees should read and own/have access to the manual Manual should be thorough and serve as a reference that employees can refer back to

What should be happening New Employee Education- Orientation Employees should have some type of orientation training with evaluation included

What should be happening Current Employee Education- Continued Learning Meetings that include all staff members Regular training programs to encourage continued learning

What approach is used? Identified Performance Gap Lack of orientation training (leads to lack of knowledge of policies and what to do in certain circumstances) Incomplete employee manual Lack of regular training programs

Where does the data come from? Data Collection Employee surveys Director interview Organization documents Experience as employee

What was found? Findings and Analysis Most employees have worked at GS for 1-3 years Most employees are full-time teachers Most employees work with 2’s and 3’s Most have read the employee manual Most have access to or own the employee manual Most received minimal training from GS upon hire- many had prior experience in education Most are certified in CPR and First Aid Many received CPR and First Aid training at GS or other child care centers Most would like to learn more about learning theories and teaching strategies, many would like to learn more about GS classroom policies and how to work with different age groups Employees would like better orientation training, more meetings, and instruction on behavior management

So What? Filling the Gap Updates to manual Development of orientation training Development of periodic training sessions

So What? Outline Manual updates Orientation training program Include what’s missing Manual distributed to each new hire Agree signed by new hire verifying that they read manual Orientation training program Develop PowerPoint for each new hire to view on GS computer Give all new employees tour of facility following PowerPoint Distribute assessment for employees to take by hand following PP and tour- must pass by 80% or repeat process Periodical training programs Develop outline for periodic training programs based off of the interests/concerns of employees

Overview Recap Background What is happening What should be happening Performance gap Data collection/analysis Performance Improvement Plan
