Common Core Standards English/Language arts and mathematics final; work on science beginning Focus on learning expectations for students, not how students get there. Governors and Commissioners of Education from 48 states, two territories, and the District of Columbia support the project

Common Core Standards Criteria Fewer, clearer, and higher. Aligned with college and work expectations Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills Build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards Internationally benchmarked, so that all students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society Base on evidence and research

Organization of Common core Standards for individual grades k,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 Standards for grade clusters 9-10, 11-12 ELA include standards for literacy in History/Social Studies and Science in grades 6-12

Common Core Assessment Smarter Balanced Consortium 31 states Computer adaptive testing Performance assessment Teacher involvement $160 million –assessment application was due June 24 – Award in September Tests scheduled to be operational in 2014-15 in Reading and Mathematics
