8.P.1 Understand the properties of matter and changes that occur when matter interacts in an open and closed container. 8.P.1.1 Classify matter as elements, compounds, or mixtures based on how the atoms are packed together in arrangements. Objective: Explain the properties of a compound by creating an infographic and comparing/contrasting the selected compounds properties with a different compound made of the same elements.

What is an infographic? An infographic is a visual image used to represent data or information. An infographic is a quick and visually interesting way to learn about a topic without tons of heavy reading! Infographics are 30 times more likely to be read than heavy text because you are visually drawn to it!

Infographic Analysis take a look at the samples A & B………. Which infographic was the best? Why? What made them interesting, content or design, or both? How did the use of fonts, color, graphics, and imagery contribute? How did the design/layout contribute to how you felt about the information?

sample infographics A.

sample infographics B.

What makes a great infographic? The Story – what is the story you want your infographic to tell, what do you want people to learn? Information & Data – accurate information from credible sources, but not an overwhelming amount of text – get to the point! Graphics – images, graphs, charts that compliment and add support to your topic without being overwhelming. Find a balance between the amount of text and graphics you use. Design & Visual Appeal – colors, fonts, the size of the different components that make up your overall image. The design must allow the eye to flow easily from one piece of information to the next. Citations – cite your information to make your infographic credible because the purpose is to be shared with others!

another Infographic Example Here’s one about beards, cuz why not? You really can create an infographic about anything!
