TPC commissioning: DAQ, ECS Calibration runs Meeting about TPC/TRD FERO Control 31-Jan-06 The TPC requires several different types of calibration runs: Pedestal taking Pulser calibration Laser calibration Krypton calibration All the above calibration procedures must be Defined: sequence of operations Implemented: 1 (set of) program(s) for each operation Included in the DCA: procedure steering the execution of the operations. Implemented as a FSM coded in SMI. 17 February 2006 TPC commissioning: DAQ, ECS

An example: pedestal calculation Consists of the following operations: Set FEE to ‘pedestal mode’ Done using the DCS Data taking (DAQ+LTU) Recording on local LDC disk No event building Compute pedestal on every LDC Pedestal can be stored immediately or later in database to be loaded via DDL or DCS Set FEE to ‘normal mode’ The implementation of a pedestal run requires work in the TPC-DCS 17 February 2006 TPC commissioning: DAQ, ECS

Next steps for calibrations Name of a person responsible for TPC calibrations This person defines every calibration procedure: Sequence of operations Building blocks (programs, who provides them) The ECS team implements the logic to steer the calibration procedure (commands sent to DCS, DAQ, LTU) The building blocks are provided by the TPC team Tests and debugging 17 February 2006 TPC commissioning: DAQ, ECS
