They are widely marketed, readily available to consumers, and often sold as dietary supplements” (NCCAM, 2013). “Mind and body practices include a large and diverse group of procedures or techniques administered or taught by a trained practitioner or teacher” (NCCAM, 2013).

Complementary Approach Natural Products Mind and Body Practices Safety Concerns Drug Interactions Product Contamination Safety Concerns Research varies Non-trained practitioner or teacher Natural Products: Drug Interactions were addressed in the slide about medical herbs. Product Contamination: “Supplements have been found to contain hidden prescription drugs or other compounds, particularly in dietary supplements marketed for weight loss, sexual health including erectile dysfunction, and athletic performance or body-building” (NCCAM, 2013). Mind and Body Practices “Mind and body practices such as meditation and yoga, for example are generally considered to be safe in healthy people when practiced appropriately” (NCCAM, 2013). This is why it is important that when practicing these type of practices you need to find a trained practitioner or teacher to instruct you through the process. “The amount of research on mind and body approaches varies widely depending on the practice” (NCCAM, 2013).
