Basketball By David Ulloa

History of Basketball Originated in Canada by Dr. James Naismith a physical education teacher 1891.Basketball was invented for Dr. Naismith physical education class active on rainy day.Basketball was originally played with a soccer ball until the 1950s when the basketball was invented. Basketball was made a official sport in 1936 at the olympics.

Objects in Motion People in basketball are constantly moving in every direction but you always want to be where the ball is. The focal point is when your team has the ball you have to try to make the ball in the basket and when your team doesn't have the ball you have to stop the other team from making the ball in the basket.

Average Speed The Average speed of a basketball player without the ball is 21.5 miles per hour. The Average speed of a basketball player with the ball in there hand being controlled is 10 miles per hour.

Newton’s 1st Law The first law says every object in motion stays in motion until force acted on it. A example of Newton’s first law in basketball is when you shoot the ball and it's blocked by the defender. The force that brings the ball back down to earth is Gravity.

Newton’s 2nd Law Second law says the sum of the forces on an object is equal to the mass of that object multiplied by acceleration.An example of Newton’s 2nd law in basketball is whenever the ball is shot or passed. The force applied to ball when make the ball travel as far as much force you apply to the ball.

Newton’s 3rd Law The final law says for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. An example is when a player is running down the court. They put force to the floor and the floor puts force back to them

Forces In basketball, there are many kinds of forces Frictional: -Allows player to run, jump, move side to side and grip the ball in order to dribble, shoot, pass. Tension: -Tied up laces on basketball shoes allow for increased security around the ankle Normal: -Keeps objects,as it is perpendicular to the surface of contact. Air Resistance: -Helps to slow down the speed of moving objects Applied: -Allows player to dribble, shoot, pass, block,Spring. Gravitational: -Allows objects to fall back to the ground when launched in air

Weight/Mass It affects basketball by having more weight/mass will make you slower and out of shape and you won't be as good as the people who are skinnier and in shape. Being skinnier and in shape will make you better at basketball and there is not weight classes in basketball.

Calories Just shooting for an hour you will burn 300 Calories If you play half court basketball for an hour you will burn 558 Calories Playing full court basketball you will burn about 747 Calories

On the moon Basketball on the moon wouldn't be that much different. You just have to make some simple modifications like make the basketball hoop higher because of the moon’s lack of gravity you could jump higher and it would easier to score and easier to play defense on the moon. Also make changes about the speed of the game will be a lot slower because of the big suits you have to wear and won't be able to go as fast.
