1 Newton’s Laws and the affects of force

2 **Explains balanced forces
Newton’s First Law **Explains balanced forces Also known as the Law of Inertia

3 Newton’s First Law Part 1 - Objects at rest, stay at rest.
1. Until a force acts on them 2. Friction puts objects at rest

4 Air Friction and Gravity!
Newton’s First Law Part 2 - Objects in motion, stay in motion. 1. Until a force acts on them 2. Friction stops objects that are moving Air Friction and Gravity!

5 Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion
Shows a relationship between Force, Mass, and acceleration. Force = mass x acceleration

6 Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion
The more force the faster the acceleration.(direct relationship) pushing someone slow, acc. is slow pushing someone hard, acc. is fast **Explains unbalanced forces

7 Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion
The more mass the slower the acceleration. A heavy truck moves slower than a lighter truck.

8 Which will have a faster acceleration?
Force = mass x acceleration Force = 20 kg x 5 m/s Force = Force = 20 kg x 10 m/s Force = Increased force on 20 kg of mass gives more acceleration.

9 Which amount of mass is easier to accelerate?
A horse carrying an empty wagon or a horse carrying a wagon full of hay? A horse carrying an empty wagon is easier to accelerate.

10 Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion
States that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. (Action-Reaction Forces)

11 Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion
You push on the ground and the ground pushes on you.

12 Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion
The oars push on water and the water pushes on the oars.

13 Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion
Rocket expels expanding gases and gases push up on rocket. Newton’s Law Video
