POWER BILLS KILOWATT HOURS: Unit of Energy equal to a 1 kilowatt device being active for one hour.

Electricity Electricity isn’t free. It costs money. (Not to mention it destroys the environment.) So let’s look at the difference between traditional light bulbs (called incandescent bulbs) and the new energy saver bulbs (called fluorescent bulbs.)

Incandescent Bulbs: Only cost 50 cents. Live 1000 hours. Use 100 Watts of power. (Hogs!!)

Fluorescent Bulbs: Cost 3.50 cents. Live 10,000 hours. Use only 25 Watts of power.

Electricity: NINE pennies can buy you 1 kilowatt hour of electricity NINE pennies can buy you 3,600,000J of energy. J 1 KWH 103 J 60 min 60 s = 3,600,000 J s 1 KJ 1 H 1 min
