Aquaponics Project Green Ajou

Traditional Agriculture For hundred of years, we depend on agriculture to provide food for us. Traditional Agriculture

Using chemical fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicide. Increasing farmland Using chemical fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicide. As the population grows, we are forced to increase food production by: 1. Increasing farmland 2. Using chemical fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicide

To have more farmland, we need to cut down more trees to create the space. Less trees mean more Greenhouse Gas. And more greenhouse gas leads to severe climate change.

Using chemical with the plants to increase higher yield will damage our freshwater resource. I am not exaggerating and trying to scare you. But if we keep doing the same practice, we are digging our own grave.

THE SOLUTION IS “AQUAPONICS”

Aquaponics Hydroponics Aquaculture Aquaponics is the combination of hydroponics which is a technique of growing plant without soil, and aquaculture which is ability of raising fish in a man-made environment. Hydroponics Aquaculture

In other words, this system which we are about to build is a small ecosystem which follows closed-loop principle. It works like this! The fish generates ammonia, fish waste, which is toxic to the fish. It is needed to be removed into biofilter where bacteria perform nitrification process by converting ammonia into nitrate which is nutrition for the plant. The plant clarifies the water to be used in the fish tank again by absorbing those nutrition for its growth.

Importance of Aquaponics Closed Loop system, generating zero waste Use 90% less water than traditional agriculture Free chemical Require less space Year round crop -There is no chemical fertilizer, pesticide being used in the system. - -a Key to sustainable food production for tomorrow massive population: no waste, use less freshwater, no agriculture runoff, and require less space with operate.

Purposes of the Project Raise awareness of current environmental problems of traditional agricultural practice Allow the students understand the concept of sustainable practice Allow the students to have first-hand experience in building aquaponics system The main purpose of this project is to learn how to build and maintain the system.

Bio Filter Growth Bed Oxygen Pump Air Pump Fish Tank I have already designed the system, prepared the proposal. The only thing left is the approval from the school. Next week I will submit my proposal to the school. When they say YES. The project will be funded and we can start building it.

Team Requirement Come and work together Share project expense I need at least 6 people in this project.

Thank You
