Welcome to lKS2 Session Aim To provide an overview of Year 3 here at Byron Primary School

What is already happening to help children make the transition to year 3? Children will spend time with their new class teacher and class for September on Friday 21st July. Teaching staff have shared information at two “Getting to know your new class” staff meetings. Those of us who will be teaching year 3 children already have the advantage of having taught or worked with them this year.

The School DAY School times are the same as Year 2 Children in Year 3 come in the door on the Infant playground and then walk themselves to their classrooms each morning Lunchtime in the Juniors is 12:15 to 13:15. On Friday it will be 12 to 1 in preparation for Friday clubs. End of the school day: 3:30pm Monday – Thursday by the door they entered in the morning 1:15pm Friday unless staying for one or two Friday clubs

What does your child need in school? Correct school uniform (all named please) PE kit named and inside a named bag Named water bottle Clearly labelled book bag. Unfortunately due to space in the classrooms, children should not be bringing large bags such as backpacks. No pencil cases- children will be given the resources they need Outer clothing for weather Please ask your children to leave toys at home Children must wear stud earrings that they are able to remove themselves for PE. No nail varnish should be worn

How much home learning will there be? Home learning will consist of: Maths- set weekly through the ‘My Maths’ website Reading- New contact books have been designed with the space to read 5 days a week Spellings- Set and tested weekly English- A piece given weekly Extra home learning may be sent home to support topic work

How can I support my child? Read with your child on a regular basis and talk to them about what they have been reading. There will be space in their contact books for small comments Help them to learn the spellings that come home Help your child to learn their times tables to 12 x 12 Support them when they have homework to complete Curriculum booklets will be given to your child on Friday 21st July to explain the curriculum for Year 3 Communicate with school and your child’s class teacher- we want to work together

communication Your child’s class teacher will of course be your first port of call. They will be available on the door at the end of each day. In the morning, myself, or another member of staff will be available to briefly speak to parents at the year 3/4 door. If you need to speak to a member of staff at any other time, then please contact the school office who will be able to book an appointment with the teacher or pass on a message. You can also use the contact books to send a message in with your child. Talk to us about any concerns you have as it is easier to sort things out before a small issue grows larger.

behaviour The children will still be working towards earning WOWs in the Juniors. They start from zero at the beginning of the year – they are not carried over from year 2. Please make sure that the office has your current mobile number so that you can receive these and share them with your child. We operate a stage behaviour system here at Byron across the whole school, so the children know the expectations and can make the right choices.

voluntary opportunities and support If you are available to help listen to readers then please contact the office or let us know. We will always ask for parent helpers on school trips- if you are able to help them just tick the box on the second part of the form.

Any questions? If you have any questions then please come and speak to me today or any day this week. Thank you for attending this meeting. Enjoy being creative as you work on “The Awesome Egyptians” homework project with your child – this will be sent home next week with your child. There is also Maths, Spelling linked to Topic and GPaS to work on with your child over the holiday ready for September. I hope you enjoy the summer holidays with your child and we, in the LKS2 team, look forward to working with them in September.
