2005 - 2007 Comparison Photo Pairs for the Chandeleur Islands Breton Island to Hewes Point Aerial Video Survey Program Pontchartrain Institute for Environmental Sciences University of New Orleans

Photographs were taken September 30, 2005 after Hurricane Rita and again in April 2007 at the same location. Photos that lined up well were scaled and aligned to illustrate the landscape changes that have taken place between the two time periods. Oblique aerial photography does not produce exact matches due to variations in altitude, camera angle and distance from the shore. Occasionally a pointer or symbol was added at the same location in both photos to assist with the visual comparison.

The location of each pair in the following slideshow is indicated here by a red triangle. The slideshow begins at the bottom of this diagram and proceeds north.

This slideshow was prepared by the Pontchartrain Institute for Environmental Sciences (PIES) at the University of New Orleans as part of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Office of Coastal Restoration and Management (LDNR) Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring (BICM) Data Collection Program. Funding for the acquisition of 2005 post-Hurricane Katrina/Rita imagery was provided by the US Geological Survey Marine Geology Program in St. Petersburg, FL. Funding for the acquisition of 2006-2007 imagery was provided by the LCA Science & Technology Program, a partnership between the LDNR and the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), through LDNR Interagency Agreement No. 2512-06-06.
