An introduction to the (IAP) The International Association of Prosecutors is the only worldwide association of prosecutors and has been in existence since 1995. It is a non-governmental and non-political organisation. Why established ? The need to establish such an organisation was required by the rapid growth in transnational crime and the IAP was established at the United Nations Offices in Vienna.

The IAP reach Over 2700 individual members and more than 178 organizational members from every region of the world, representing 350,000 prosecutors in over 172 countries and territories.

The IAP Vision The IAP is an International Community of Prosecutors committed to setting and raising standards of professional conduct and ethics for prosecutors worldwide; promoting the rule of law, fairness, impartiality and respect for human rights and improving international co-operation to combat crime. Its aim is to be a world authority for prosecutors on matters in the conduct of criminal prosecutions and associated matters and to operate as an organization of international repute and referral

The IAP Objectives Crime is no longer just a domestic concern. Increasingly crime and criminals are taking on global dimensions; exploiting jurisdictional differences and evading border controls. Cooperation between prosecutors as well as investigators can be instrumental in bringing perpetrators to justice. This is one of the main objectives of the association; others include the setting of standards, promoting good practice and upholding Human Rights and the Rule of Law.

IAP officials The IAP Secretariat is based in The Hague where the Secretary General of the association Han Moraal is located The President is currently Gerhard Jarosch, President of the Austrian Association of Prosecutors. The General Counsel Dr. Rasmus H. Wandall, who is responsible for the Associations professional work programme and The Executive Director, Mrs. Janne Holst Hübner, who is responsible for the day- to-day administration of the membership and networks are both located in Copenhagen, Denmark. .

IAP Regional Conferences The IAP regularly arranges Regional Conferences for prosecutors from Europe, Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Middle East and Asia Pacific and Latin America and more recently for prosecutors from Africa and North America and the Caribbean. The aim of these conference is to bring training, assistance and network opportunities to frontline prosecutors
