Daily Geography Week 3 Day One 1. What type of government does the United States operate under? 2. What are the three branches of the US Government? 3. Why do we have three branches of government? 4. Define separation of power, checks and balances and veto.

Day One Answers Democracy or Republic Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Because of the British monarchy the colonists didn’t want one person to have absolute control of the government. We have a strong central government, with a balance of power.

Check and balances – a system that prevents a tyrannous concentration of power in any one branch for the protection of citizens Veto - the power one department or branch of government has to forbid or prohibit the carrying out of projects attempted by another department
