Lesson 19 (Psalms: Patterns for Prayer)

Prayer During Trouble Remembering – “Righteousness” means vindication. David’s recollection of God’s past loyalty and kindness to him in times of trouble and how he vindicated David was a motive to praise and a reason to hope. Believing – God has placed the righteous under His special care and attention

Prayer For Guidance Prerequisites for prayer Depending on God – God is the source of all help and strength Trusting in God – A believer can have complete confidence in praying if he knows God’s Word and asks according to the promises it contains. Waiting for God – Waiting fuels faith. The more a Christian waits for God, the more he’ll trust that God is about to do something. Those who wait on God persist in prayer.

Petitions to Pray What should the Christian ask God to do? Reveal Your Will – a believer first searches the Bible to know God’s will; then he repeats God’s Word in his prayers to ensure that God will perform his will. Remember Your Love – God’s character qualities were the grounds on which the psalmist appealed to God to answer his prayer Remove our guilt – believers must have clean hands and pure hearts

Principles of Prayer God’s attributes – Because God is God, prayer is possible. God’s actions – God’s wonderful personal attributes lead Him to do wonderful things for His people. (He teaches sinners, He guides and teaches the humble, He remains faithful to the obedient, and He reveals His way to those who fear Him.)
