Pre Reading: With a partner, look at the following pictures Pre Reading: With a partner, look at the following pictures. Tell your partner what you know about the characters.

Chapter 1 Question: Why was the man on the ice? Think of three possible reasons. Who was the man on the ice? TASK part 1: With a partner, write a letter from ‘the man on the ice’ reassuring his family back home in Switzerland. TASK part 2: Role play the following situation with a partner: STUDENT A has just received a letter from his/her brother, STUDENT B. You are very worried about him. Why? Phone him and try to find out the truth.

Chapters 2 & 3 Question: Why did Victor become interested in electricity? TASK: You will role play Victor’s University entrance Interview with Professor Waldman. With a partner, think of 8 questions the professor will ask Victor. Then role play the interview with a partner from another group.

Chapters 2 & 3 PROJECT: In a group, design a lightning bolt timeline for Victor’s life up until now. This must show the key moments in his life so far. Present your timeline to the other groups. They will give you a score between 1-10.

Chapter 4 Question: How is the monster’s physical appearance described in chapter 4? Think of three examples, but DON’T look in the book! TASK: With a partner, cut up 10 pieces of paper. The teacher will show you photos of five different people. When you see a photo, write down two adjectives to describe them physically. If your words are different to other groups you will get 1 point.

Chapter 5 Question: How did William die? With a partner design two possible scenarios (police reports) to tell another group. Remember you don’t know about the monster! TASK: Role play the police having to give the bad news to William’s father.

Chapter 6 DEBATE: Frankenstein is wrong to want to kill his monster. GROUP A: You agree with this statement. You have 10 minutes to list your reasons. Afterwards, you will have a debate with a student from the other group. Use language to express your opinions. GROUP B: You disagree with this statement. You have 10 minutes to list your reasons. Afterwards, you will have a debate with a student from the other group. Use language to express your opinions.

Chapter 6: Justine’s Alibi You are police officers who have arrested Justine for the murder of William. She says that she was with her friend all evening. You must design 10 questions and then interview Justine and her friend separately. If their answers are the same, they will go free. You are Justine and her friend. Justine has been arrested for the murder of William. You tell the police you were together when the murder happened (you decide where). They will interview you separately so make sure your stories match!

Chapters 7, 8, 9. Question: With a partner, list 5 difficulties that Frankenstein faced. Which was the most important one? TASK: In groups, design a brochure of Dos & Don’ts to give to a monster (like Frankenstein) who is coming to live in Turkey. Decide what difficulties it would face and what it should do about each difficulty. THEN, you will present your ideas to the monster in a ‘new neighbor’ role play!

Chapters 7, 8, 9: TASK – With a partner decide on the 10 most important words to learn before you visit another country. PYRAMID DISCUSSION TASK: Walk around the class showing your list to the other students. Every time you have different words, discuss and decide which one is more useful and make changes to your list. Eventually, everyone should have the same ten words!

Chapters 7, 8, 9: WANTED POSTER TASK 1: With a partner, list ten words to describe physical appearance. You will get 1 point every time one of your words is different from the other groups’. Question: What information should be on a ‘Wanted’ poster?

TASK: In groups, design a ‘Wanted’ poster for Frankenstein!

Chapter 10 TASK part 1: With a partner, discuss three positives about Frankenstein. Compare with other groups. DEBATE: Dr. Frankenstein should make a wife for his monster. GROUP A: You agree. Prepare your reasons. GROUP B: You disagree. Prepare your reasons.

Chapter 10 cont. TASK: With a partner, write a positive but truthful description of Frankenstein to post on an online dating agency. ROLE PLAY: STUDENT A, you are an administrator for a worldwide dating agency. Your new client, Mr Frankenstein, has come to the office for his interview. Find out everything you can about what he wants in his ideal girlfriend! STUDENT B, you are Mr Frankenstein. Think about how you will describe your ideal girlfriend!

Chapter 11 With a partner, think of three ways to ‘refuse’ this request: “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” Compare your ideas with another group. TASK: Role play the following situation – Frankenstein is trying to persuade the Doctor to make him a wife.

Chapter 12 TASK part 1: With a partner list the main points of the story so far. Compare your list with another group. Role play 1: Dr Frankenstein is telling his story to a very surprised judge! Role play 2: A sympathetic psychiatrist is interviewing Dr Frankenstein to try and find out the reasons for his madness. Dr Frankenstein doesn’t want to tell him the truth!

Draw a circle and divide into 14 segments. Each one is a chapter.

For each segment, write 1 sentence summarising the chapter (Start Chapter 1 at 12 o’clock) Chapter One: a ship rescues Dr Frankenstein from the North Pole

Chapter 13: With a partner, list 5 things couples have to think about when organizing their wedding. Compare with another group.

Chapter 13: With a partner you are going to plan the dream wedding for Frankenstein and his bride. Consider and plan the following: Location. Guests. Catering. Entertainment. Vows. Transport. Honeymoon. Recording the event. Gifts.

Chapter 15: BLOGS With a partner, write down five things that should be in a good blog. TASK: With a partner, write Dr Frankenstein’s blog about his chase for the monster. Use the world map to show his journey.

Mark the events in the story on this map.
