Articles Superpower – is a country that is strong militarily, politically, and economically that they are able to convince nations all over the world to do things they otherwise wouldn’t.

5 Reasons Why the US Remains the World’s Only Superpower Economics – 80% of all business transactions involves the United States. The citizens of America enjoy a high standard of living. Military - The U.S. dominates the land, sea, air, and space. U.S. spends 4 times more money on military expenses than any other nation.

Political Influence – The U. S Political Influence – The U.S. is the leader in financial assistance towards other counties. This allows the U.S. to financially control other countries. Many people throughout the world chooses the U.S. as their way to a better life. Innovation – The U.S. is the leading producer of oil and natural gas. The U.S. is also home of 8 of the top 9 technology companies in the world.

Lifestyle – Americans donate more money to charity than any other nation in the world. This shows that citizens of the U.S. are able to live a way of life that meets their satisfaction and allows them to give money those less fortunate.

U.S. Image Suffers as Publics Around World Question Trump’s Leadership Policies that are opposed by nations throughout the world: 1. Plan to build a wall along the U.S. and Mexican border is seen by many to go against U.S. image of welcoming those wanting to better their lives.

2. Restrictions of entry into the U.S. towards Muslim-majority nations. 3. U.S. withdrawing from climate change accords. Despite many countries opposing Trump’s policies those countries polled did not see that this would change their relationship towards the United States.

I. Terrorism - Terrorism is the unlawful use of, or threatened use of, violence against individuals or property for the purpose of intimidating or causing fear for political or social means. The United States has been subjected to terrorism, both at home and abroad. The September 11, 2001, attacks were the most destructive acts of terrorism ever committed on American soil.

II. September 11th – Attack The hijackers crashed two planes into the World Trade Center towers. They crashed one into the Pentagon, the U. S. military headquarters near Washington, D. C. The fourth plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania without striking its intended target (some believe the White House), after some passengers wrestled the hijackers. Over 3,000 people were killed.

World Trade Center – the headquarters of the largest businesses in America. Place where most of our business trade agreements are made.

Pentagon – Headquarters of the U.S. Military

III. Who Did This? - A group, known as al-Qaeda, which was formed to fight the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. This group, led by Osama bin Laden, later began to oppose American influence in Muslim lands. It started to target Americans and U.S. allies (friends) after the Persian Gulf War in 1991.

Where does al-Qaeda operate Where does al-Qaeda operate? - Now has terrorist cells in over 100 countries including the United States.

The terrorist group al-Qaeda has created a global network, or worldwide interconnected group, of extremist Islamic terrorists. After September 11, 2001, the United States organized a coalition, or an alliance, to prevent future terrorist attacks. Coalition against terrorism includes: Canada, China, Britain, Pakistan, Russia, and others. These ally nations against terrorism all work together to share information and make arrests.

IV. Prevention Terrorism is a critical threat to national and global security. It is not limited to outside threats. In the past few decades both domestic and international terrorist acts have increased in violence. To help prevent future attacks the Department of Homeland Security was created increasing: New airport security measures Extra security measures in public places

Terrorist Operations and Weapons Terrorists act in secret and move between countries. - some want territory - some oppose government policies Terrorists could use biological, chemical, or nuclear weapons. Biological weapons refer to bacteria and viruses that can be used to harm or kill people, animals, or plants.

VI. Reasons for the Attacks The reasons that Middle Eastern terrorists have targeted Americans are as follows: For supporting the wealthy Middle Eastern kingdoms and families through the oil industry. For spreading American beliefs of democracy (right of people to vote), capitalism (private ownership of businesses) and Christianity which threatens traditional Muslim values. For supporting Israel - homeland for Jewish people in an area that is primarily Muslim.
