Dr. Jason Profetto, BSc, MD, CFPC Dr. Jason Profetto is an academic and family physician. His main focus of academic work is in clinical skills at McMaster University where he sits as chair of the department. He teaches at all levels of learners, including both medical students and residents. He has a full time family practice in Stoney Creek where he works closely with his father, Dr. Ralph Profetto. He is an avid chess player, athlete and most importantly, he is a father and husband. He recently published his second book, In The Trenches; The Daily Grind of Family and Academic Medicine.

Dr. John You, MD, MSc, FRCPC Dr. John You is a general internist at Hamilton General Hospital, and an Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine, and Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact.

Dr. Carys Massarella, MD, FRCPC Dr. Carys Massarella is an attending emergency physician at St. Joseph’s in Hamilton and is the lead physician for the Transgender Care Program at Quest Community Health Centre in St. Catharines. Dr. Massarella sees and treats transgender identified clients of all ages and is a leading expert in transgender care in Ontario. She teaches at the Degroote School of Medicine where she is an Assistant Clinical Professor. Dr. Massarella lectures widely on transgender health care and has also done a TEDx talk on “The Depathologization of Trans Identity.” She was the first transgender person to be president of a large teaching hospital’s medical staff and was named one of the World’s 50 Transgender icons by the Huffington Post. She sits on the gender advisory committee for gender independent children for Rainbow Health Ontario, is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.

Dr. Jon Davine, BA, MD, CCFP, FCRPC Dr. Davine has completed residencies in family medicine and psychiatry. Over his career, he has focused on work at the interface of family medicine and psychiatry, both educationally and clinically. His outpatient psychiatry practice focuses on liaising with primary care physicians in the “shared care” model.  For a number of years, he has taught courses in behavioural sciences to family medicine residents and to family doctors in the community. He has lectured nationally and internationally on this topic. He works at an outpatient adult psychiatric clinic.

Dr. Christie Kim, BSc, MSc, MDCM, FRCPC Dr. Kim is a staff hematologist at St. Joseph Health Center in Toronto, is the medical education supervisor for the Division of Hematology/Oncology, and the director of the Thrombosis and Anticoagulation Clinic. Her clinical interests are focused in thrombosis & malignant hematology. She completed her masters in experimental medicine, her medical degree & internal medicine residency at McGill University, and her hematology residency at University of Toronto.

Gary Blake, Clinical Manager at Juravinski Hospital, F5 Medicine Gary Is the Clinical Manager for F5 Medicine, a 38 bed unit that is part of the Juravinski Hospital’s Medicine Program. Gary has worked for Hamilton Health Sciences for 23 years, working during that time in the Acquired Brain Injury Program, Integrated Stroke Program and Medicine Program. Gary graduated from the school of Psychology at McMaster University in the early 90’s. He spent the early years of his career working with a behaviourally complex patient population, coordinating care and training for caregivers.  He is a published researcher in the field of brain injury prevention, and in 2000, he developed HHS’s Provincial ABI Crisis Management Team. This team continues as a provincial resource and provides behavioural training and education to caregivers in all settings across Ontario. Gary moved into Health Care Management, first in 2015 within HHS’s Neurosciences Portfolio as part of the Integrated Stroke Program, moving to Medicine at the Juravinski site in early 2016, where he continues today. Gary has spoken many times at educational events, training days, and at conferences both locally and internationally.  

Tahera Vawda, BSW, MSW, RSW Tahera is a registered social worker at Juravinski Hospital, working in medicine. Tahera has six years of social work experience in community and hospital settings. She works within an interdisciplinary team at Juravinski, focusing on safe discharge planning involving navigating systems, liaising with patients, families and community supports to facilitate safe discharges. Tahera has a Social Service Worker Diploma, a Bachelor’s of Social Work, a Master’s of Social Work and is currently working on attaining a graduate diploma in Critical Leadership in Social Services and Communities from McMaster University.

Alison Plotzke, CCPA Alison Plotzke is a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant working in Family Medicine in Stoney Creek, Ontario. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science from the University of Guelph and completed her Physician Assistant degree at McMaster University. She acts as a networking liaison for practicing physician assistants and PA students in the Hamilton region. Her clinical interests include well adult care, diabetes, nutrition, and celiac disease.

Deanna Lautenbach, CCPA Deanna Lautenbach is a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant working in Family Medicine at the Profetto Savatteri Family Medicine Clinic since she graduated from McMaster’s Physician Assistant Education Program in 2013. She is an associate clinical professor with the McMaster Physician Assistant Education Program and has been fortunate enough to be involved with teaching Clinical Skills and Tutorial for the past three years.
