The Endangered Species Act- 1988 Originally approved December 28, 1973 In 1982, 1985, and 1988 amendments were made National Gianna Giacalone Period 2

ESA Gives a list of species that are threatened and endangered Eliminates the unauthorized ownership and selling of endangered species Lets people acquire land for the purpose of conservation of certain species Allows for adequate punishments when the regulations are violated, and rewards when someone convicts another 1988 amendment: Redefines “person” to clarify in relation to corporations Requires certain monitoring and reports from different groups such as the Secretary of Interior Requires five-year monitoring for species that have been taken off the list Prohibits destruction to endangered plants Etc.

The United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are responsible for administering it
