Isaiah 53:4-6 (NKJV)  4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,

Isaiah 53:4-6 (NKJV) And by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

One Day; Two Views Isaiah 53:4-6

One Day; Two Views In 1859, Charles Dickens published his novel “A Tale of Two Cities” The story was set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution There is a famous quote that comes from the opening paragraph of the book…

One Day; Two Views “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…” There seems to be a contrast that measures two extremes as this novel opens Perhaps we have used the same type of language before in speaking of things in our lives

One Day; Two Views There is one particular day the Bible speaks of that could be looked at in this same manner The day that Christ was crucified on the cross That day could be viewed as the worst day, but yet the best day

Worst of Days That Friday that Jesus was crucified was certainly one of the worst days that the world had ever seen One need look no further than what happened immediately after He died… Matthew 27:50-53

Worst of Days On that day, the greatest injustice that the world has ever seen took place The most innocent man to have ever lived, died on behalf of the guilty (II Cor. 5:21; Heb. 4:15) He died without a shred of evidence against Him

Worst of Days Pilate himself saw no guilt in Jesus (Matt. 27:23-24; Lk. 23:14-15, 22; Jn. 18:38; 19:4) Notice the reaction of those who were nearby at His crucifixion, following His death… Matthew 27:54; Luke 23:47-48

Worst of Days He was BETRAYED, stabbed in the back, for 30 pieces of silver (Matt. 26:14-16, 47-49) He was FORSAKEN (Matt. 26:56; 27:55-56; Lk. 23:49) He was BEATEN (Matt. 26:67; 27:26; Mk. 14:65)

Worst of Days He was DENIED (Matt. 26:69-75) He was MOCKED (Matt. 27:27-31, 39-44) He was CRUCIFIED (Matt. 27:35) To say that this was the worst of days could still be considered an understatement

Best of Days While that day was horrible, we also can see the good that came from it The worst day for our Lord turned out to be the best for us It was a day in which Jesus was actually triumphant, not defeated as many thought

Best of Days He died for our sins Romans 5:6-11 Hebrews 9:26-28 I Peter 3:18 I Peter 2:24

Best of Days He brought in the new (greater) covenant Jeremiah 31:31-34 Hebrews 8:6 Hebrews 9:15-17

Best of Days He demonstrated love John 3:16 John 15:13 I John 4:9-10
