Macbeth Act III Scene iii Period 1 Makenzie Tournay, Lauren Miller, and Katie SeCaur

Who escapes the murderers. At what cost Who escapes the murderers? At what cost? How is this a turning point in the play? Fleance, Banquo’s son, escapes from the murders. He escaped at the cost of his father being killed. Also because the murderers made a mistake and put the torch out, the darkness made it hard to see. It is a turning point in the play because now that Fleance is a witness to a murder it changes everything Macbeth had planned.

Banquo’s final words are “Oh treachery. Flee, good Fleance Banquo’s final words are “Oh treachery! Flee, good Fleance! Flee, Flee, Flee! You must seek revenge!” What do Banquo’s final words reveal about him? Banquo’s final words reveal that he is protective because his final words were telling his son to run away from the danger instead of helping him. He was trying to keep Fleance alive. Banquo also feels in his last words that Fleance needs to get revenge for whoever killed him and tried to kill Fleance.

The number 3 appeared in the beginning scenes and is significant throughout the play, i.e. number of witches. How is this number significant in this scene? How do you think it will be important at the play’s end? The number 3 is significant in this scene because it was the number of murderers Macbeth hired to kill Banquo and Fleance. It could be significant at the play’s end because 3 could be the total amount of murders caused by Macbeth. It can also be significant because there could be 3 things that lead to Macbeth’s death.

Symbolism Torch- Banquo is the light to Macbeth’s darkness. Also the torch burnt out as he was murdered by whoever Macbeth hired. Theme Listen to your parents- When Banquo told Fleance to run he listened which saved his life. Fleance can also now do as his father wished and get revenge. Foreshadowing Because Fleance escaped it give him the chance to come back at some point to face the murderers to avenge his father and take the throne from Macbeth. Tone/Mood Dark and suspenseful, Dark because Macbeth had three people murder Banquo and almost Fleance who were close to him. Suspenseful because Fleance escaped and no one knows what he will do. Conflict Fleance vs. Murderers. The murderers, hired by Macbeth, tried to kill Fleance and his father and was only successful at killing Banquo and Fleance fled which changes everything.
