What happens when you pull the FIRE handle?

The FIRE handle closes the:. -Fuel Shut-Off Valve The FIRE handle closes the: -Fuel Shut-Off Valve -Hydraulic Shut-Off Valve -Engine Bleed Valve -Engine Inlet Anti-Ice Valve

What EICAS messages are presented when you pull the FIRE handle?

-FUEL SOV CLSD. -HYDR SOV CLSD. -BLEED SOV CLSD -FUEL SOV CLSD -HYDR SOV CLSD -BLEED SOV CLSD Note: There is no message for the engine inlet anti-ice valve

What type of fire detection system is installed on the engines?

Fire/Overheat sensor tubes.

How does a fire detection sensor tube detect a fire?

They sense changes in gas volume and pressure and indicate general overheat conditions or a fire signal.

How many fire extinguisher bottles protect the engines?

2.

How does the LAV fire extinguisher bottle work?

Heat in the LAV trash can will melt a fuse plug and discharge the bottle.

If the fire extinguisher in the LAV is discharged, will there be any indication in the cockpit?

No. The F/A visually inspects this unit during their first flight of the day check.

What is the total fuel capacity of the EMB?

11,100 lbs.

How do you cross feed fuel from the left tank to the right engine?

Turn the XFEED knob to the LOW 2 position.

What does the XFEED knob do when it is placed in the LOW 2 position?

-XFEED valve opens -Selected fuel pump in tank 2 is de-energized

How would you know if a fuel pump had failed?

You would hear the clicking of the relays in the cockpit as the system cycled through the operative pumps; You would see the pump letter change on the fuel page of the MFD as the system cycled through the operative pumps.

If pump A failed, what would the fuel system do?

The fuel system would alternate between pumps A, B and C until one of the operative pumps was selected.

Do all of the fuel pumps (A, B & C) receive their power from the same source?

No. Pumps A & B are powered by the Essential bus No. Pumps A & B are powered by the Essential bus. Pump C is powered through the DC Bus.

If an electric fuel pump is inoperative, how much useable fuel (per the MEL) is lost per tank?

365 lbs. (730 total).

When will EICAS present a message for a fuel imbalance?

When the imbalance has reached 800 lbs.

What is the purpose of the ejector pump?

The ejector pump helps keep the collector box filled.

Where is the fuel temperature measurement taken?

The left fuel tank.

How do you know if the cabin interphone is working?

By receiving a test call from the cabin.

Can the cabin interphone be deferred by using the MEL?

No. It is required by TSA.

How many NAV lights are on at one time?

4 total: 1 in each wing and 2 in the tail.

When would you press the back-up interphone button?

If there is a failure in the normal mode.

If one of the wing NAV lights fails, how do you select the other one?

Use the toggle switch in the relay box behind the Captain’s seat.

What do you turn on when you turn on the RED BCN switch?

The red beacons and the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR)

How many hours of information can the DFDR hold?

25 hours.

If we forget to turn the RED BCN switch to the ON position, will the DFDR still come on?

Yes, when the aircraft is airborne.
