Blue Shirt Day! Let’s BE UPSTANDERS at DLS!

What is Blue Shirt Day? We wear blue to day to raise awareness and talk about Bullying. Blue Shirt day kicks off our Week of RESPECT! During this whole week we will be talking about ways to respect each other, take care of each others feelings and treat each other kindly. We have some fun activities planned this week…….

WEEK OF RESPECT 2017 Dual Language School We will start our week of Respect with Blue Shirt day. We will talk about bullying, what it is and how to deal with it safely. Today we will be watching a video about how to be an UPSTANDER at DLS Ms. Rodriguez will be pushing into classes this week to talk about ways we can RESPECT each other and you will all be taking THE GOLDEN RULE PLEDGE!

Week of Respect 2017 Dual Language School The theme of this week will be: Lets be an UPSTANDER at DLS because we use the Golden Rule!

You will be making a Rainbow with ALL of your names on the Rainbow Week of Respect 2017 With Ms. Rodriguez and your classroom teachers we will be creating a MURAL, that will show that we all believe in being an UPSTANDER and that we all pledge to use the Golden Rule. You will be making a Rainbow with ALL of your names on the Rainbow You will be signing GOLDEN RULE PLEDGE COINS , to help fill up a Pot O Gold at the end of the Rainbow!!!

The Golden Rule and Bullying…. Lets start by talking about BULLYING…… Bullying is a severe, hurtful form is disrespect. Bullying is when a more powerful person hurts someone’s body, feelings or things on purpose again and again.

TEASING or MAKING JOKES IS it Bullying? BULLYING Someone is being hurt physically, emotionally, social or verbally Someone is being hurt on purpose Only bully is having a good time or laughing, victim is not Unequal balance of power Happens over and over again TEASING or MAKING JOKES Everyone is having fun and laughing No one is getting hurt Everyone is participating equally MEAN MOMENT Someone is being hurt on purpose It is a ONE TIME reaction to a strong feeling or problem CONFLICT No one is having fun There is a possible solution to the problem Equal power with people in conflict There is a specific problem or issue that people don’t agree on

What are the ways people bully? Here are some types of bullying SOCIAL leaving someone out on purpose, getting someone to stop being friends with someone else, being a ‘freinemy’, mean sometimes, nice other times NON-VERBAL Eye rolling, mean faces, mean gestures VERBAL saying mean words, yelling, making fun of someone, saying things that are not true about someone, spreading rumors. PHYSICAL hurting someone's body, unwanted touching, punching, kicking, pinching, taking someone's things, destroying someone's things. CYBER writing mean things online about someone, posting hurtful words or pictures, making mean comments, taking and posting pictures without permission

Week of Respect 2017 Now, we are going the watch and listen to “Be an UPSTANDER” As you are watching and listening, think about how this story talks about how to be an UPSTANDER? Pay attention to what the characters do to stop bullying

Week of Respect 2017 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeqQCyQOCPg

Week of Respect 2017 LETS BE UPSTANDERS AT OUR Wow….what a great story! Did you notice how Ned helped Tar from being bullied? So you see………… It just takes 1 person to make a difference, stand up to a bully by being an UPSTANDER not a bystander…. We can all be UPSTANDERS! That means ALL OF YOU! You are all special, wonderful and unique….you all matter, and you can all help make DLS, a bully free, respectful school. LETS BE UPSTANDERS AT OUR DUAL LANGUAGE SCHOOL!!!!!

Lets talk about some ways you can be an UPSTANDER……… STAND UP, tell the bully to stop, then quickly walk away to an adult. Stay safe…don’t respond physically When you INTERRUPT you help a friend from being bullied and try to help them get away SPEAK OUT, being an upstander lets the bully know that are being mean to others and its not cool TELL SOMEONE, tell an adult right away—talk to or write a letter to a teacher, counselor or staff member you trust

Week of Respect 2017 Let’s BE UPSTANDERS…. ALWAYS Tell and Adult! You are still learning how to deal with this difficult situation and should not deal with this by yourself. Adults can help someone who is being bullied feel better and the adults can work with the bully so they stop hurting you. If you see someone being bullied: if you can, tell the bully to stop. Be a friend to the person being bullied. Tell an adult about what’s going on.

Lets be UPSTANDERS at DLS! The Golden RULE! Treat others how you want to be treated
