A note of caution The techniques in this presentation will only work on metadata created in the following versions of ARC ArcGIS 9 (but this generates metadata from an earlier version of the MEDIN discovery standard) ArcGIS 10, 10.1 and 10.2 Metadata generated in newer versions of ARC cannot be converted using this tool

The XML does not follow the ISO 19139 standard (XML implementation of the ISO 19115 standard for geospatial metadata)
