ACTIONS TO BE IMPLEMENTED STEP BY STEP BY UNDERTAKEN A WATERSHED MANAGEMENT STUDY IN FACT

(Between you and public authorities) First of all you have to sign the contract! (Between you and public authorities)

COLLECT EXISTING DATA AND COLLECT FIELD DATA

COLLECT DATA Existing Mapped Data Applications to Prefecture, office of Environment Municipality department of Environment Municipal Company of Development Municipal Company of Water Supply In most purposes the answer is negative

COLLECT DATA (Existing Mapped Data) Thus, as a result you have to address to: I.G.M.E G.S.A Forest Service (Local or in Athens) -Digital data -Analogue data Material Topographic maps, geological maps, Forest land maps

GIS Data (usually not available) Scanning of Maps if the data are at analogue format By using a GIS software you can calculate and estimate all morphometric features of the watershed (ArcMap) By using the appropriate hydrological model (FEM and some others) you can estimate the base flow, the mean flow, the flood flow with return period, the Rc, etc

Rainfall and stream flow Data (usually not available) If available input in the before mentioned models If not data creation by using equations and stochastic models (Mathias etc)

Biological and water quality Data. Collection of them, if any

Existing Studies and Reports Applications to Prefecture, office of Environment Municipality department of Environment Municipal Company of Development Municipal Company of Water Supply Forest Service

All the above might have an advisory character only and some times might be used just for validation. You have to work with your data and to realize brand new studies and reports

NOT COPY!!!!!!

Compilation of the Watershed Management Team (WMT) Quite necessary the presence of: You! (W. M specialist) Civil Engineer Conservationist – Biologist (If there is significant vegetation or Natura 2000 Area in the watershed) Forester (if there are Foresters and Forest lands in the watershed)

Economist – planner (Especially when technical works and land-use management will be undertaken and realized) Environmental attorneys (if we are near the borders or the watershed is in transnational or in areas with a significant touristic interest)

First assembly of the W.M.T Classification of Data Biological and Water Quality data estimation by the Conservationist – Biologist Determination of the selection criteria for the stakeholders team. Decision for the involvement of the county and region authorities

Second assembly of the W.M.T Identification and classification of the problems in general and specific Discussion with the members of the W.M.T (including stakeholders) Creation of the questionnaires and the field sheets for starting the field investigations Distribution of duties, groups of population selection

FIELD INVESTIGATION (FIELD DATA) With the participation of You Forester Conservationist – Biologist And 2-3 workers

Walking and Routing the Watershed from lower parts to upper parts Walking on the depositional area Fill in the depositional area field sheet Walking in some parts of the bed especially where a specific problem appear, in situ flow measurements

With the walking and routing, Confirm the general problems (Already recognized and discuss) Confirm the specific problems (Already recognized and discuss) Discover new specific problems Classified the watershed by the term of its “torrentiality”

Take pictures of the important points Realize survey works (Topographic works, like georeference of points etc)

With the above field data and the already existing data as well as with the data collected by questionnaires we are ready to start the implementation of the watershed study.
