The DEC Recommended Practices The goal of the Recommended Practices is to inform and improve the quality of services provided to young children with or at risk of disabilities or delays and their families. Population: young children, birth-5 (through kindergarten), who have or are at risk for developmental delays and disabilities; not limited to those eligible for IDEA services (e.g. children with severe challenging behavior)

Small Group Discussion Instructions Instructions for small groups: We are going to now think about the products from two perspectives Half the room will plan how the products can be used to support families The second half will consider how the products can support professionals
Small Group Discussion Questions Be prepared to respond to the following questions: How might you use the available products to prepare a family/yourself/other team members for an upcoming assessment? Which products would you use and how? How could you use the products after the completion of the assessment to reflect on your/others’ performance? As a family member, how could the products help you know whether or not the activity was completed as it should?
Large Group Discussion Who is currently involved in your state in disseminating information about the practices? What PD opportunities have been used in your state to support the implementation of the Practices? How do you ensure that the Practices are reaching the targeted audience? What techniques have been useful to sustain and scale up the use of the RPs? e.g. PTIs, Dept of Ed, other EC partners How could you communicate information your learned today with these groups when you get home? How could you improve colaborations with these groups around the use of the DEC RPs?
