Presentation transcript:

Christmas! Christmas is a huge tradition in Denmark where you celebrate the birth of Jesus. Christmas Eve is on the 24th December. In Christmas Eve we Dance around a decorated Christmas tree, singing songs. Some go to church. Share presents from under the Christmas tree. Eat a big dinner. It’s different from family to family what you eat but normally it’s roast pork, duck, sweet potatoes, red cabbage and gravy. For desert we eat rice pudding with almonds and whipped cream with cherry gravy. In this porridge, we put one single whole almond in and the one who gets the whole almond wins a present. This present is traditionally a pig made of marzipan. We also have a traditionally hat for Christmas! It’s a red hat with a white top. Many wear this hat from the 1st December till 24th.

Julefrokost! In the beginning of December, we have a Julefrokost. There’s no certain date of this event. This day we gather around with friends, family and coworkers and eat a big Christmas lunch. We eat rye bread with all kinds of fittings and we drink beer and snaps which is why many is caught drunk driving in December! However, of course the kids get soda.

Pixies! Pixies are a big part of the Danish Christmas. We say that they go around, making trouble to tease the humans. To make them happy so they won’t annoy us during the stressing Christmas time, we give them rice pudding and light beer. If we have an attic, we put it up there. Some also give the pixies cookies and milk. Of course, it’s only families with little children who has this tradition. The adults can remove the meal during the night and the next morning, show the kids that it’s gone and say that it was the pixies who ate it.
