Study Leave 2017 Study leave for all students will start on Friday 26 May (half-term week when there are no exams); Leavers’ Assembly is also on Friday 26 May – further details to be confirmed Remember that those students who have an ATL of 1.8 or below will have the privilege of making some decisions with their parents about how they manage their revision in the last two weeks leading up to half term; There is still a chance that students can reach the 1.8 threshold so keep working at it as the final ATL collection is not until early May.

How should you prepare? Study your Statements of Entry for the Summer 2017 exams and work out which subjects you will have exams in; Create a revision timetable (if you have not done so already!) and start your revision now, continue during the Easter holidays and finish your revision after the Easter holidays; Find out what to revise for each exam – it may not be on everything you have studied so check carefully; Get revision resources together – your books, revision books, website addresses , checklists etc. Attend any after school revision sessions that you are invited to Remember there will NOT be enough class time to thoroughly prepare for these important examinations, so your independent study skills are the key to success!

How will a revision timetable help? Helps you to organise for enough time on each subject. Aim to do some revision each week between now and Easter and about 4 hours of revision each day during the Easter break. Gives you control over your revision. Build in breaks and treats. Don’t revise all day every day! Build in 10 min breaks every 40 minutes or so. Don’t work too late at night – you’ll just be tired next day! Timetable topics that you struggle with at the start of your revision session: don’t just focus all your time on the topics/subjects that you like/feel confident about already. Face up to the more difficult stuff! A revision timetable helps to reduce the stress of revision and exams and prepares you to do your best this summer.

Finally……. Remember that there are only a few months to go before the summer exams so use your time wisely now and over the Easter holidays.….. Think: ‘Short term pain = long term gain!” and ‘Don’t waste nearly 5 years of study by not taking things seriously enough with the finishing line so close’.

How could you revise? Don’t just read through notes and hope you will magically remember everything! Much better to revise ‘chunks’ of stuff and then do something with it e.g. Create revision cards, create a revision diagram or answer a past exam question Buy the recommended revision books There are useful websites for both memory and revision on the PSHE Y11 page on the SLG List keywords for each topic covered which can act as "triggers" for other ideas. Some kind of mind-map of notes can be helpful. Revise with a friend if it helps - if possible, exchange ideas during revision - this can be very helpful to you both in understanding topics and building confidence. Questions and Answers - get a friend to ask you specific questions about topics and think up questions to ask your friend. Make up a set of revision cards - with one main topic per card, each topic listing ideas or information for this topic. You can carry these cards with you and get them out and revise on the bus or anywhere
