Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) – Review, Reports, and Resources Tran Keys, Ph.D. – Research & Evaluation Santa Ana USD Principals Meeting – September 25, 2014

Agenda We have one hour to cover the following: Review of MAP 3 Reports that can be used NOW by teachers Class Report (by Test RIT) Class Breakdown by Goal Report Student Goal Setting Worksheet Resources MAP Administration and Reporting Center (MARC) DesCartes: A Continuum of Learning (transitioning to “Learning Continuum”) Knowledge Academy

MAP Trainings 8/22 – 9/11 = MAP testing/proctoring – 4 sessions 9/10 = District office staff – NWEA MAP training 9/25 = Principals’ meeting (1 hour) - TODAY Upcoming – Training of Trainers model 9/29 = DAC DELAC meeting (and future meetings) 10/20 = NWEA MAP training focusing on Teacher reports (curriculum specialists and TOSAs) Principals’ meetings TOSA meetings Curriculum specialist meetings (dates TBD) 3 departments working very hard to roll out MAP – R&E, IT/TIS, and Ed Tech/LIT R&E – special thanks to Michele Cunha and Lizbeth Torres

Review – Features of MAP Computerized and adaptive test that measures academic growth (in reading and math) Difficulty of the test adjusts based on student performance as they progress through the test Individualized and unique for each student Give students as much time as needed to complete each test AVERAGE time required to complete each test is 50 minutes (per NWEA) A continuous test with content covering Kindergarten through High School

Review – Benefits of MAP Each test is individualized giving all students the opportunity to succeed Parents and teachers receive quick, detailed, and accurate information about student’s academic growth Test is designed to let teachers know where students strengths and challenges are (Results used to inform instruction in the classroom) Provides students with information needed to achieve their personal goal

RIT (Rasch Unit) Scale Achievement scale Equal interval Grade/Age Independent Shows growth over time Linked to learning continuum Adult Math 240 NWEA scale Test items are calibrated for difficulty along the RIT scale. 150 Beginning Math

Adaptive Assessment Source: NWEA

Class Report (by Test RIT) Student and class performance Displays the teacher’s class data for the current testing term by RIT score Use to see a breakdown of student performance by subject in a class; use to differentiate instruction.

Class Breakdown by Goal Report Range of student academic skill levels Displays the teacher’s class data by subject/goal area and horizontally by RIT for the current testing term Use to differentiate instruction; use to create skill-based workgroups.
