The Eiffel Tower in Paris, France By: Jasmine Stewart

Background The Eiffel Tower exists in Paris and it is exactly 300 meters tall, and weighs 10,100 tons. It is virtually impossible to not see, if in Paris. The structure took more than 2 years to finish and it a little over 12,000 iron pieces to make along with 7 billion nails to help hold it all together.

Chief architects of this tower The one mainly responsible for this great work of art is a man by the name of Gustave Eiffel and was assisted by engineers Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier, and architect Stephen Sauvestre This man is also well known for his exquisite techniques in architect. He was also responsible for building a few bridges, and for having done the iron work for the famous Statue of Liberty.

It’s purpose for being there One reason for it being there, is simply because it is a symbol of Paris. It was built for the World Exhibition, in 1889 in celebration of the French Revolution in 1789. It was supposed to come down afterwards, but stayed anyway, which had caused a lot of controversy then. It’s purpose for being there now, is to be a part of the International Time Service, and the Parisians use it for the radios.

What sort of math was used? Gustave and his helpers used the weights of the irons of that they were going to use, to figure out how it was going to be built, and the numbers of floors, and would it be tall enough to be able to transmit radio signals and whatnot. So in a way, the Eiffel Tower also measures the speed of wind, for the airplanes flying above.

Is it still there today?? Yes, it most certainly is still in Paris, and still in pretty good shape!

In my opinion… I personally love the fact the Eiffel Tower is where it and I like the concept of it. I like how it stands where it does for a reason, and not there just for the heck of it. I also like it because there is a restaurant in it… :D So I think that it is a great architect, and no, it is not overrated.
