Where did it ALL begin? 1859 → Uniformed Units formed → Schools across the UK → Protect Britain → Oversea Attacks 1908 → Units now called Officer Training Corps (OTC) → Beginning of the CCF(RAF)
Where did Air Cadets begin? → Royal Air Force established → 1st April 1918 Air Commodore J A Chamier → Served in Army, Royal Flying Corps & RAF → Make people aware of RAF and it’s importance & encourage young people to join RAF → Founded Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC) in 1938 → Cadets helped at RAF stations during WWII → 7 years later … 100,000 cadets had joined RAF
What Next? → ADCC proved extremely valuable → War Efforts → Government Recognised this → Took control of ADCC → End of 1940 → Government Changed the organisation and name → ADCC turned into ATC 5th February 1941 → King George VI → Air Commodore-in-Chief
...The End? Since 1941... → Women were allowed to join! → 1980s NOT YET Since 1941... → Women were allowed to join! → 1980s →1,009 Squadrons → 42,000 Cadets → 9,900 Adult Volunteers
